It enables a high level of software integration through the use of Web services—small, discrete, building-block applications that connect to each other as well as to other, larger applications over the Internet.”Microsoft’s ‘.NET’ platform was released in 2001 as a new feature to their Windows family of products. This affects many aspects of Information Technology because Windows products are responsible for a major share of home and office computers systems and website servers on the Internet. The technology behind .NET allows programmers (often called ‘developers’) to create software programs or applications that utilise the wide spectrum of information technology resources used every day by people around the world.A NEW APPROACH TO BUILDING WINDOWS SOFTWAREThe .NET Framework simplifies Windows software development. It provides developers with a single approach to build both desktop applications - sometimes called ‘smart client applications’ - and Web-based applications. It also enables developers to use the same tools and skills to develop software for a variety of systems ranging from handheld smart phones to large server installations.Software built on the .NET Framework can be easier to deploy and maintain than conventional software. Applications can be designed to automatically upgrade themselves to the latest version. The .NET Framework can also minimize conflicts between applications by helping incompatible software components coexist.

Level 3 Diploma in Management Information Systems

This Quality Assured Level 3 Diploma course will facilitate those students wishing to obtain a greater understanding of the technology that supports business and executive management. It considers the vital "lifeblood" of the organisation - Information - how this is generated, how it is retained, maintaining data integrity, manipulation of information to produce management reporting information and statistics. The important aspect of decision support and how computer technology is utilized for analysing and interpreting information. Management Information Systems is a general name for the academic discipline covering the application of information technology to business problems. As an area of study it is also referred to as information technology management. The study of information systems is usually a commerce and business administration discipline, and frequently involves software engineering, but also distinguishes itself by concentrating on the integration of computer systems with the aims of the organization. The area of study should not be confused with computer science which is more theoretical in nature and deals mainly with software creation, or computer engineering, which focuses more on the design of computer hardware. IT service management is a practitioner-focused discipline centering on the same general domain. In business, information systems support business processes and operations, decision-making, and competitive strategies. The course concludes with an online examination. Entry Requirements: All students must per 16 years of age and above. These require a minimum prior learning to GCSE standard in order to for students to manage study and the assumed knowledge within course content.

Level 3 Diploma in Media Studies

This Quality Assured Level 3 Diploma course will facilitate those students who wish to obtain a foundation in media studies and in particular those with an interest in journalism, advertising and global media considerations. Media studies is an area of scholarly inquiry approached from both humanities and social science perspectives that considers the nature and effects of mass media upon individuals and society, as well as analysing actual media content and representations. A cross-disciplinary field, media studies uses techniques and theorists from sociology, cultural studies, anthropology, psychology, art theory, information theory, and economics. In the UK, media studies emerged in the 1960s from the academic study of English, and from literary criticism more broadly. It tended to grow through colleges and polytechnics, rather than through established universities. Nevertheless, the Centre of Contemporary Cultural Studies (CCCS), founded by Richard Hoggart at the University of Birmingham in 1964, was a notable exception. Media studies can partially be understood as a response to the McCarthyist paranoia of the influences of the mass media. In the UK, Mary Whitehouse's right-wing National Viewers' and Listeners' Association was concerned at the growing 'permissiveness' of broadcasting, and in the US a number of pressure groups have campaigned against the supposed corrupting influence of popular media - in particular on children. The course consists of ten modules and concludes with an online examination. Entry Requirements: All students must per 16 years of age and above. These require a minimum prior learning to GCSE standard in order to for students to manage study and the assumed knowledge within course content.
